Living Flame II

We invite you to participate in the Living Flame II program, a series of seven daylong mini-retreats designed to guide you to a deeper experience of contemplative prayer.

faculty members from Contemplative Outreach International, including Monica Freeman, Rickey Cotton, Anne Mazza, Therese Saulnier, Matthew Flatley, Susan Komis, and Mary Dwyer. Each session will include periods of prayer, presentation, and discussion, and focus on specific practices and ideas that will enrich our contemplative experiences.

Topics include:

  • Desert Ammas and Abbas
  • Monastic Heritage
  • Contemplation and Contemplative Living
  • Helps on the Journey
  • Soul Friending
  • The Psychological Experience of Centering Prayer
  • Night of the Spirit

The program is designed for those with an established contemplative prayer practice who seek to deepen and enrich their understanding of the prayer and their spiritual journey. Participants who are familiar with Fr. Thomas Keating’s writings and video recordings will get the most from this experience. An intention to attend all seven sessions is required. We hope that over the course of the year, the group will form a close community, supportive of one another as we deepen our prayer lives together.

The cost for all seven sessions is $225, discounted to $200 for those registering by June 30, 2010. Some scholarship support is available; please contact RK McElhinny if you would like to request such support. The programs will all be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 5801 Hampton St., in the Highland Park area of Pittsburgh.

You may download a registration form here which has more details, or please feel free to call if you have questions.
